Warrior Wake-Up!

West Middle School is excited to offer the Warrior Wake-Up program to twenty 8th graders for the 2013-2014 school year! The purpose of the program is to provide students with a before school fitness workout that will be both aerobic and fun while tracking optimum heart rates.  After morning workouts, students eat a nutritional breakfast before starting with academic classes.  A variety of data collection methods will also be explored in order to assess the degree that morning workouts and a nutritional breakfast are correlated with improved academic participation, performance, level of alertness, attendance and stress reduction. Students who choose to participate in this program will wear a heart monitor and data will be tracked throughout the school year.

The early morning workout concept comes from a program called "ZeroHour PE" in Naperville, Illinois and is based on the premise that exercise jump starts your brain to new learning potential as well as lowering stress and anxiety.

This year we are in the process of purchasing the EKHO Team Heart Rate Training System The software would allow for real time heart rate data collection which will allow us to provide instant feedback to students and parents as part of our expansion of the program.
