WMS Gr. 8 Students Investigate the Capabilities of Google Earth

"Students in grade 8, both teams Dynasty and Fusion, used Google Earth to investigate Scientific Notation. The activity came from the website www.realworldmath.org This activity gave students a chance to experience the power of Google Earth as they used virtual rulers to measure the "map length" from London to Tokyo.

They also collected data about their step, jump and crawl lengths, as well as the numbers of steps, jumps, crawls they can do in ten seconds. We will next use this data in the classroom to see how long it would take them to walk from Sydney to Perth!"
