Grant Brings “Makerspace” Resources to West Elementary

We are very excited to create a “Maker Space” at West Elementary. In anticipation of this space we wrote a mini grant to get supplies through Donor’ We know that students learn best when their hands are as busy as their brains. We are proud to announce that we have been selected as a grant recipient as part of the "Smarter, Together!" grant opportunity. We want to thank Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany for their generous contribution of $1467.00.

With this grant money, West will receive a collection of LittleBits brand DIY electronics kits as well as supplemental materials. These materials will provide unique learning experiences for our students that encompass the 4C's (Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking and Creativity). In addition, these materials will be used to support the district’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) initiative.

The "Innovation Station and Science Integration” grant proposal is designed to encourage both busy hands and inquiring minds. We are looking forward to introducing our students to the littleBits electronics kits made possible by this generous funding!
